MEMBERSHIP-CHORI & HI-JACKING” BEING FACILITATED BY YOUR HR.!

It’s one thing for HR to manage employee engagement. It’s another to “auto-enroll” officers into associations — without their consent, or worse, without their knowledge.
And that, says the All India Bank of Baroda Officers’ Union (AIBOBOU), is exactly what’s happening under the watchful eye of HR departments across regions — a phenomenon member have sarcastically dubbed “Membership Chori — now HR certified!”
Every officer knows the drill: you join the bank, fill out a mountain of forms, and trust HR to handle the rest. Somewhere between Form 12B and Medical Declaration, however, another document silently sneaks in — the “Association Membership Form.”
No discussion.
No consent dialogue.
Just a quiet tick-box that says “welcome aboard… and by the way, you’re also now a member.”
In a formal yet fiery letter, AIBOBOU has asked the management to investigate this “forced fraternity” — questioning how HR systems, meant for employee welfare, are being used to push selective memberships and influence representation.
The union quipped,
“Neutral HR? Sure — just like unbiased algorithms!”
Behind the humour lies a hard truth: the right to choose representation is a fundamental workplace liberty.
The Banking Regulation norms, Code of Conduct for Management, and even basic industrial relations ethics stress voluntary participation.
Yet, the current “HR-connect” system seems to have developed a sixth sense — enrolling officers before they even decide.
AIBOBOU isn’t laughing for long.
They’ve demanded:
Suspension of automatic membership deductions,
Transparency on how data is shared with associations,
And accountability for HR officers facilitating such linkages.
One officer summed it up perfectly:
“I thought I was signing my joining form. Turns out, I was signing up for loyalty points.” 😏
Another noted that while welfare associations play a key role, enforced affiliation erodes trust faster than any memo can repair.
For a system built on compliance and fairness, the HR department’s selective silence is the loudest sound.
If welfare schemes are truly voluntary — why the secrecy, and why the shortcuts?
As AIBOBOU’s campaign line reminds everyone:
“Integrity in small things safeguards trust in big ones.”
What began as a comic headline is turning into a serious conversation.
Because humour may soften the blow — but it doesn’t hide the truth.
